As a result of the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian cars sometimes drivre on the road in Germany without an international insurance, so called „Green Card“, or border insurance.
What regulation applies until 31.05.2022?
Free insurance coverage via German insurers
Due to this emergency situation, the German motor insurers have decided to settle claims caused by these passenger cars in Germany until 31 May 2022 via the Deutsche Büro Grüne Karte e.V.; unfortunately, for legal reasons, this solution can not be extended.
What do you have to consider from 01.06.2022?
Check insurance coverage through Ukrainian insurer
Despite the situation, some Ukrainian insurers continue to operate and can still issue their insured persons with International Insurance Cards ("Green Card") valid for Germany. Therefore, please contact your Ukrainian insurer first.
Here you can see which Ukrainian insurers offer international insurance cards: http://www.mtsbu.ua/ua/presscenter/news/168164/
Border insurance via German insurers
If your Ukrainian insurer can not issue you with an International Insurance Card ("Green Card"), you must take out a frontier insurance policy in Germany.
To take out a frontier insurance policy (motor vehicle liability insurance at the statutory minimum amounts of cover), please contact one of our agents in your area. You can use our search function to find a contact person.
Please note that the conclusion of a border insurance is only possible with cash payment. In addition to your personal details, we also require the following information about your vehicle:
- Registration Number
- Categories of Vehicles
- Vehicle Identification Number
- Category and Brand of Vehicle
- Date of First Registration
